TheShadow Edit: An actor who's not listed on the IMDB site is Jack Larson, a previous Jimmy Olsen. According to www.supermanhomepage.com/news.php?rowstart=10 (who had an interview with Larson), Larson will be playing Bibbo:
"I must state for the record that Jack did not tell me directly who his character was in "Superman Returns", but when I guessed it, he admitted that I'd guessed correctly. I was able to piece it together from things mentioned to me by Bryan Singer, things I'd seen on-set down in Sydney when they were filming on the street, and from the small bits of information Jack mentioned. Jack Larson is playing the part of Bibbo in "Superman Returns". For those unfamiliar with Bibbo, he's a character that has appeared both in the comics and in "Superman: The Animated Series". He's a friend of Supermans, and owner of the Ace O' Clubs tavern/bar."
Who's directing the film?
"Bryan Singer, who is known for the recent X-Men Movies."
"Is this film a sequel?"
"Yes and No. Basically this film starts off with Superman already as an established hero. This is very similar to Batman (1989) as the film tells Superman's origin through flashbacks.
The film is connected strongly to the Donner films starring the late Christopher Reeve. As a matter of fact archive footage from the first film of Marlon Brando as Superman's biological father Jor-El will be used.
There will also be a connection to Smallville, the WB TV series, which will end it's last season one month before the film. More info will be posted when it becomes avaliable."
TheShadow Edit: Although this would have been cool, this was recently debunked by Gough and Millar in a video interview. There is no such connection and Smallville and Superman Returns will still be in separate continuities.
