I found one today (they are pretty difficult to find), and this thing absolutely blows away that sissy purple one. I can now finally say "Does it come in Black?"

I got to admit I like how this one looks, and it is a great improvement, but I really never thought of the other one as purple. At least now I can have a battle damaged one and a regular one.

I didn't think of it as purple either, until I put it next to a Tumbler that was clearly matte black...and as accurate as possible (even better than the dc direct one). I actually may buy more than one. I bought a black one, carefully replaced the purple one into the box and will return it tommorow. I look at it as being owed to me for Mattel screwing up the first time. How could they paint the first one purple, when in the movie it is clearly black? Meh, well...at least they are trying to get these out on store shelves. The only time I will buy this batmobile again, if not in black...is if Mattel makes a camo one. Now that would be a cool variant, and I would have rather them done that then release a purple one to start with.

Isn't it kind of interesting that these started to show up after all the in store sales ended?

Isn't it kind of interesting that these started to show up after all the in store sales ended? What I find odd is why Mattel has soo many repaints and variants for this line. They also release the better painted ones AFTER you've bought the other one too.

I noticed that as well Flabat. I have a theory on this tht I belived I discussed with RW. What I believe happened was that Mattel's first production run was rushed in order to get the toyline to match with SW's April 2nd release.
The evidence comes with the Battle Gear Batman figure. The first run had an enitirely glossy torso and and legs that spread out like this ^ A couple weeks later, there was the appearance of the flat torso that still had part of the lower knee glossy, so that the boots would be glossy. At this point, the legs started to appear parallel like this I I. And as recent as 3-4 weeks ago, specifically at Target and Wal-Marts, it seemed Battle Gear Batman had been greatly improved in terms of paint aps. The torso and lower knees were flat, but now the boots and chest symbol remained glossy.
And now, there's the Batmobile's drastic improvement.
